There were two reasons we decided on Jones the Grocer. First, we have never been there before and second, an ex-student worked there.
As it was a weekend, it was more or less packed. Even the empty tables were reserved.
I mean, just look at that queue!
Long or not, we still joined the queue. We came all the way and we were not going to leave without eating there!
I saw a few familiar items on the shelves and came to realise that it was an Aussie brand, which explained why there were so many angmohs speaking English with an Aussie accent.
They had a section just for cheese! Dad would have liked it.
And guess who the cheese expert on duty was.... :) I had quite a few to sample and they were pretty good.
I really liked the interior set up of the place. However, I do think that they are a little tight on space.
And then we were shown to our table. The drinks came first. The iced chocolate hazelnut ($7.50) was refreshing for a hot day. Hm, better not to stir in the cream on top, though.
The cappuccino (regular $5; large $6) was fragrant but was not as hot (in temperature) as I would have liked it to be.
We shared a serve of the highly recommended coconut pancakes with fresh mango, vanilla ice-cream and palm sugar syrup ($13.50).
It was delicious! The coconut flavour would not be a norm on a pancake menu in Sydney but perhaps this was Singapore and it was more tropical, they infused some tropical flavours into their menu (which explained the mango and the palm sugar syrup, too). I would imagine that instead of palm sugar, normally maple syrup would be served with pancakes.
We also had a serving of toasted Jones muesli with natural yoghurt and fresh fruit.
Munching the muesli made me tired - so many things in there!
Other than the long queue, staff were friendly and the place was clean. A little too noisy if you are looking for a place to have a proper catch up, though, unless you visit on a weekday when the crowd is smaller.
