Madame Waffle @ IOI City Mall

One fine arvo, Alicia and I had a waffle craving and decided to satisfy it by driving over to IOI City Mall for a quick bite. We swiftly paced ourselves to the top level where Madame Waffle is located. We wondered what franchise waffles would taste like.

I liked the design of their store. I thought it was smart to use  cubes to represent waffle. One look and it would make people think, oh, yea, them.

As we wanted to quick bite, we chose simple things off their menu. As they sell themselves as the first artisan Belgian waffle-makers using Japanese ingredients in Malaysia, we of course, had to order a Japanese-ish waffle, right?

And so, we ordered a Matcha Waffle, which I paired with a hot cup of Japanese Matcha Latte. Ah, I have to say, I was surprisingly impressed. Freshly-baked, indeed and the latte, not shortchanged in flavour at all.

We thought it would be good to try a plain waffle. We then chose our own toppings to go with it and the below is the end result of our selection, pretty right?

Wouldn't mind going again to try their other waffles. Am quite attracted to the cinnamon one. Alicia, we go again, ya?

Franco @ IOI City Mall

Since IOI City Mall started operations, my family and I have had an extra place to go to for shopping, eating and catch ups. Of course, being a shopping mall means there will be makan places and one of them situated on the Lower Ground level is an outlet of Franco Malaysia.

I visited twice - once with Dad and another time with the bestie. Both occasions I had different things to eat but the same to drink - this glass of refreshing Matcha Frappe with Azuki. Brain freeze, every time. Next time should try their warm drinks, instead.

Their menu comes with a variety of food options, from pasta to rice to dessert. I tried their Squid Ink Rice, just because I thought it sounded interesting. Although it looked small served in a cast iron pot, it was actually quite filling due to the rice. I thought the Omu egg could have been a little more moist but I suppose it really depends on the chef on shift.

And because I always order French toast if offered on any menu, Franco's was no exception. I had to try theirs to see if worth coming back for more and I was so happy that I found another place to come for French toast! No fuss, just straightforward French toast, I like.

Now that they also offer souffle on their menu, I have more reason to visit again.

Jennie's in town!: Putrajaya and Kuala Selangor

We were supposed to visit Putrajaya on Saturday but since Belinda wanted to meet up for brekkie on Saturday, we changed our itinerary. We had to do Putrajaya today and for once, I was happy that it isn't that far away from home.

What can one say about Putrajaya? Well, it's like Canberra, just much newer and exaggerated. Oh, we have many bridges that connect the 'island' floating in the middle of the man-made lake. Many buildings are still under construction. Some plots of land are still vacant.

As usual, we had to stop and take photos of the mosque. It has to be THE most photographed mosque in Malaysia.

Also, we took notice of some of the many bridges in the administrative city.

There was the convention centre, which looked like a manta ray. I think passers-by must have thought we were crazy to be taking photos under the hot sun.

We drove around the place and being the blur person I am, we were unsure of where we were supposed to head to. Oh well, we thought we'd follow passing cars and we stopped by a pier when we saw this:

Yup, we decided to be busybodies! Our tummies started to rumble and so we took that as a sign to head home. After having pan mee for lunch, I took Jennie to Wangsa Maju. "Wangsa Maju, what's there?" you may ask. Ah, well, this:

Yes, Royal Selangor. You won't get this anywhere else in the world, trust me. Inside, we were taken on a personal tour of the company's history. There were many things on display, showing how pewter was mined and used.

They had a wall covered with the prints of all staff members, which I thought was a good idea to promote a sense of belonging in the company:

Both of us came out with a bag of something. I bought something that was on sale and Jennie bought a pair of really suave cuff links for a someone back in HK...

We rushed back home to shower and headed straight over to Hartamas. We were meeting up with Max and Catherine. Max drove my car and we headed to Kuala Selangor for some seafood! So happy! And when you're there, you wouldn't miss the chance to sight fireflies. Although Jennie was afraid of the sampan sinking, she was still amazed at the small flickering lights. However, it is sad to note that this time around is the least bright of the three times I've been there.

By the time we got back to Hartamas, it was past midnight. Drove over to KPMG so that we could meet up with someone we have not seen since he left Sydney three years ago - Ta Seng!

From the left, Hoi Ying, Hoi Ching and Li Bin are the children of two of mum's cousins. Also, they all studied at our Centre so they are not only my second cousins, they are also my students!


This is mum's cousin Chu Yuan and if you Google her name, you'd find out a few things about her...


And on the left is Lik Shan, Chu Yuan's younger brother. He was the only other relative (and the only one who spoke Hakka) in Sydney. The leng lui is Ting Ting, also my second cousin...
