Omega Pork Noodles

I believe in the power of social media because I got to know about this "modernised" pork noodle establishment from Instagram advertisements. I was attracted by the professionally put-together photos and captions, and how mouth-watering each bowl looked.

The claimed true story behind how this shop came about was heartwarming, and they had a set of accompanying videos that reenacted it. I wondered how much they paid for all these advertising, with professional actors etc. I suppose, it is worth all the marketing because of how much attention they managed to grab.

In total, they have six outlets spread across the Klang Valley - Kota Damansara, Sri Petaling, Kepong, Pandan Indah, Pavilion Bukit Jalil and Puchong. My first try was at their outlet in Sri Petaling. My second time was at their outlet at Pavilion Bukit Jalil because that is nearer than Sri Petaling. Both times, I visited with the bff and both times, we were really lucky to find parking spots that were nearby.

We visited Pavilion Bukit Jalil just slightly past 6pm. There was already a queue and we had to wait a bit for a table to become available. I thought that was rather impressive because despite having to pay almost RM20 for a bowl of noodles, the place was packed.

We could choose the type of noodles we wanted, whether to have the noodles dry or in soup, and with or without innards. Being the Hakka girl that I am, I chose to have innards and I chose to have my flat noodles dry (personal preference).

I could barely finish it off - it was a huge serving and it was their normal size! In addition to the usual intestines, liver and other parts of the pig, they also give a big piece of pork mince. The sauce proportion in the noodles is just right for my liking and the soup bursts with flavours.

Although they serve pretty good pork noodles, I probably would not keep visiting, as there are other shops nearer to home. However, I think that they most definitely are worth at least a try.

Note: Bottomless drinks available when dining-in.

Fishee Coffee

It was one of those random cafe-hopping days with Alicia that I visited Fishee Coffee for the first time. They were pretty new then. All we knew was that they had good traditional waffle, which was enough to entice me for a try.

Located on the first floor of shoplots, it took us a while to find them because we could not find the road they were at - stupid GPS. Okay, not the GPS' fault, more like we could not see their sign because it blended so well with their white paint. Haha - but when we finally spotted their fish logo, we both went, "Oh... here is it..."

The cafe owner in Alicia was busy trying to guess how much their reno costed, what types of furniture they used, their layout, their counter, their coffee machine and what not. I was there just to enjoy a new place and find out what kind of service they offered, as some places may look very pretty but offer lousy service, which is a big shame.

As they are located within close vicinity of IMU, we made the assumption that most of their customers would be IMU students. Heck, we even thought their employees could have been students, too. Maybe not from IMU but would be around that age - geez, we are really aging...

Not sure if it was because of how "green" they are in the coffee business but their mocha did not quite give me the kick I needed. Again, they were pretty new when I visited so expectations were not high. Am sure by now their coffee has improved.

Their Eggee Ham Toast was alright. Was very much like a brekkie I would have with XW in Sydney during our weekends.

But this, their Fishee Classic Gold Waffle was absolute gold! I have not had such tasty classic waffle in a long time, especially in KL! I do not think I even have had waffle in such perfect crispy-outside-warm-and-fluffy-inside texture in Sydney.

Only street parking available and it is a pain to find a proper parking spot during weekdays because of the offices there. I am not a big fan of double parking and so, parking further away would have to do at times. Weekends are better if you would rather not walk.

The Owls Cafe

When this cafe first opened, they did not have operating hours as friendly as what those they have now. I guess, one would have to try out the market, as they say, to tweak your supply to the immediate demand of the area and people you serve.

What is in a name? Well, everything. This cafe is called The Owls Cafe and naturally would carry an owl theme. As I love owls, I love everything in this cafe - the mural, the decor, the teapots, everything! You can say that I instantly had a cafe crush, if there existed such a thing.

Although this is the home cafe of barista Loo Choy Leng (Malaysian Latte Art Championship 2015 finalist), I have not tried their coffee. Instead, on both the occasions that I was there, I opted to have tea. And not just any tea, I like the Ravishing Rose Tea (RM8/cup, RM12/pot).

The cafe is known for not only owls but also for delectable waffles. Little did I realise that their revamped menu also consisted proper meals, such as this huge serving of Baker on the Go, an 180°C  oven baked buttery flavoured crispy croissant served with salad and fries in the choice of Morning Daisy, farm eggs scrambled to perfection in golden and soft texture (RM16).

I was also pleasantly surprised with their selection of savoury waffles, like this Sally Salmon (RM24),  a herbs-based waffle top golden scrambled eggs infused with truffle oil served with smoked salmon and confit cherry tomatoes. This waffle was in the traditional round shape.

The dessert waffles that we ordered came in a non-traditional flower shape. The first was the Milo Dinosaur (RM15), which was topped with a scoop of dark chocolate ice-cream, marshmallow, Coco Crunch, Milo powder and condensed milk.

The last but not least was in my opinion, the best non-classic waffle I have ever had in a long time. The Rebecca (RM18) was filled with strawberries and blueberries and topped with a scoop of Earl Grey ice-cream, almond flakes and maple syrup. That Earl Grey ice-cream was unforgettable. I loved it!

If you plan to go with a group of friends, it is a better idea to car pool as the street parking there can be a nightmare, especially on weekends. Also, the weekend queue to get a table can get quite long, so be prepared to wait for a table.
